'A GREAT BALANCING ACT'
Fiona Chandler X Crossing Threads®
Sydney Road Gallery, October 16 - November 2 2025
Life rarely sits still. Whether you're raising children, building a career, caring for others, or simply trying to meet your own needs, each day becomes its own juggling act. ‘A Great Balancing Act’ explores the shifting rhythms of life, where balance isn’t a destination but a constant, imperfect negotiation. This exhibition brings together watercolour artist Fiona Chandler and sister fibre art duo Crossing Threads® (Lauren & Kass Hernandez). Different in medium and life stage, they’re united by a shared truth: creative life demands continual adjustment.
Fiona, who initiated this collaboration, brings a perspective shaped by experience. With her children grown, she now creates with deeper focus and freedom, expressing the tension between constraint and creativity: so many ideas, so little time. Crossing Threads® is deep in early motherhood, raising toddlers and building their practice in the quiet pockets between nap time, daycare drop-offs, and the rare uninterrupted evening. They’ve recently taken a leap of faith, stepping away from part-time roles to pursue art full time.
Together, their works speak across generations, echoing a universal truth: balance is fluid, messy, beautiful and deeply human.
